Sunday Suppers

I really shouldn't share this blog with you since it puts my own food photography efforts to shame. Absolutely gorgeous photography, great cooking tips (like how you're supposed to clean mushrooms) and of course, recipes to follow along. A blog after my own heart and stomach.

However, I am not too terribly jealous since I belong to a fabulous Supper Club whose members surprise and wow me every month with their culinary skills. One thing I'm going to work on after seeing Sunday Suppers is setting a nicer table. Flowers make all the difference.

Looks just like our Supper Club!
If we planned ahead more, we'd have a printed menu, but for now I enjoy the element of surprise.
The soft pastels and natural elements in this setting are so pretty.
Biscuits and flavored butters. Yummy.

Litte Rock - Part 2

Last week was crazy busy for me so I apologize for the late Little Rock posts. Today is dedicated to Miss Becky and Mr. Jack. They stayed in a hotel so we could have the house to ourselves. Now that's going above and beyond!

I felt instantly at home when I walked to the front door and saw the nice greeting (below). I definitely learned a thing or two about hospitality and what is means to be truly welcome someone into your home.

Their charming little house was nestled in a perfect little cul de sac. I'm going to have to come back when that Magnolia tree {left} is in bloom. I bet it's gorgeous.

This was a great place to sit every morning as we lounged around drinking mimosas, made breakfast and watched the birds. Isn't the pattern on the chairs lovely?

I never thought to frame my menus even though I steal quite of few of them for my inspiration folder. Speaking of theft, I am going to steal this idea!

The herb garden was amazing. I can't believe how big and plentiful their garden was in May. It was such a treat to just go out and pick what we wanted for dinner - basil, sorrel, dill, oregano, onions, green beans, arugula, you get the idea. We were on the lookout for a squirrel or two to shoot down, but they must have known and steered clear.

When I walked into the bedrooms, I thought I was staying at a B&B. The beds were perfectly made, bottled water was on the night stand and all the lights were twinkling. We slept like drunk babies every night.

Love how this little book was displayed. The house was full of thoughtful details and great pattern and color. Becky, Jack, thank you so much for opening your home to us. We all had such a great time and can't wait to come visit again! Is it rude of me to invite myself? :)

Signage

I think I'm going to make this for my yard except the signs will lead you to my....
{+} Herb Garden
{+} Vegetable Garden
{+} Fire Pit
{+} Back Yard
{+} Hammock

Materials I'll Probably Need...
{+} Galvanized Bucket or Ceramic Pot
{+} 2 x 4 or wood pole
{+} Plywood
{+} Pickling Stain
{+} Quart of Light Blue Paint
{+} Ornamental Grass & Flowers

I'll keep you updated when this gets done...I have quite a few projects lined up, but I do try to find the absolute easiest ones for my skill level.

Visit the Style Me Pretty blog if you're a bride to be. They have a fabulous $4,000 giveaway in conjunction with Crate & Barrel. Too bad I've already gotten married twice to the same guy. Third time would be overkill, don't you think?

Little Rock - Part 1

Supper Club took the show on the road to Little Rock, Arkansas over Memorial Day Weekend. This week's posts will be dedicated to our trip and this lovely town.

I thought it would be fun to do an illustrated journal, my first one ever. A small sketch pad, a pencil, a Sharpie, some colored pencils and a giant eraser was all it took to record the memories. Here are a few of the better ones (click on pictures to see them bigger)...

George and I had never seen an armadillo before so the sight of a dead one, not smashed flat as a pancake with its legs up in the air was hilarious. This is a quick sketch from what I did manage to see as we drove by. On the way home, we saw at least five more. When it rains, it pours.

Our intrepid leaders decided to take the Pig Trail, a winding, steep and scenic route to Little Rock. One problem? The Bob Mobile is a bit older, a little fragile and not too happy with having his brakes rode that hard. It got a little smoky, but good ol' Bob was a trouper. Besides, it gave us a chance to get out of the car, stretch our legs and see our second armadillo. This one was quite a bit flatter and a lot more deader. {illustration by George Vial}

Miss Becky, our gracious hostess, used to keep a turtle journal, marking, numbering and documenting their activity. She told me this story one afternoon, poor turtle.

Jeff mixed up this light, delicious breakfast treat: cream cheese with the juice and zest of one lemon, cucumbers, parsley, capers, wrapped in smoked salmon. I ate almost all of it by myself. So good.

Funny George making us French toast without his shirt on. That really is how his chest hair grows.

When you follow someone, you assume they know where they're going, even when they pass the exit that says home. But it was detour day. One quick loop-de-loop and we were pointed in the right direction again. {illustration by George Vial}

Blast to the Past

I have been cleaning my office and you know the treasure that can be found under all the mess....these budding fashionistas, for example. Can you believe these fashion opposites are married now? The heart wants what it wants.

Send me a funny picture of yourself as a child - the person who makes me laugh the hardest will get a special handmade surprise from Bristow Fresh.
