After another night of poring over food magazines and talking about recipes I wanted to try with a friend, we both realized the same thing. We keep tearing out these recipes, collecting them in special binders but did we actually ever make anything? Hardly. Thus, Supper Club was born. Our goals: to make those recipes we read come to life and to make some new friends. Now our pants are tighter, but our friendships have grown stronger along with our culinary skills. We’ve been eating together every month ever since.

Supper Club Rules
1. Host couple decides the theme for the month and everyone else brings a side dish, appetizer or dessert. Be creative with your themes. Some of ours have been British Isles, Fast Food Redux, Retro Recipes, Burger Contest and Spring Picnic.

2. Limit the number of guests. We started with four couples so the table stays small enough that we still get a chance to talk to each other. Inevitably our friends clamored for invitations to our fabulous dinners which now means the host couple gets to invite two guests.

3. Get different groups of people together. You won’t know each other at first but when you cook together, you get to know each other very, very quickly. Make sure there are plenty of adult beverages. Having a wine rep or two in your club doesn’t hurt.

4. Be consistent but flexible. We meet every month on a Monday except for December, but we don’t have to go to every dinner. Supper Club is supposed to be fun not stressful, so if someone can’t make it, then they just come the next time. We have plenty of people in our club, which has grown from a standing eight top to a regular group of eleven.

5. Have fun! We take tons of pictures, especially of the food, but when it comes down to it, Supper Club is about friendship and family. From the beginning, we have taken group pictures and it has become a fun tradition to gather ’round the couch, set the timer on the camera and juuuuump in.
