Although no one would exactly call me an outdoorsy person, fine artist and illustrator Danna Ray manages to capture all the moments of camping and being outside in the great, big wild so beautifully, that even an indoor person like me gets it. When I actually do go camping, it's quite fun but it's thinking about going camping that makes me dread it. The bugs, the heat, the fresh air. Ugh.
You can see more of Danna's work on her site or buy a print here or on etsy. I'm thinking this would make a great wedding gift, especially of the socks sleeping beneath the blanket of grass. Artist found by way of halcyon days

"a home between dreams"
![]() |
Loving Miss Capricho's illustration style and gorgeous use of color. A snippet from her site reads that she is "...a Swedish girl with Cuban roots looking for a home between dreams, vain hopes and little black dresses..." She has such a lovely way of phrasing things, it makes you want to know her even more. by way of oh joy!

Wine Wheel
This is a pictorial version of a wine aroma wheel I did a few years ago. My client didn't use it, but it's still one of my favorite pieces since illustration isn't exactly one of my stronger skills. Sketched in pencil, scanned in and colored in Photoshop.
The wine aroma wheel is a learning tool for novice wine drinkers to help them identify the different notes, flavors and aromas in wine. Think saddle leather, skunk, peaches, cloves, bacon, vanilla. Click on either image for a better look.

Portraits
For my wedding anniversary next month, I'm thinking about getting a professional portrait done with George. I have two options...
A traditional photograph shot in an untraditional way. Ever since I saw Max Wanger on Joanna Goddard's blog, I have been thinking about how dreamy his photos are.

OR a one-of-kind illustrated portrait by Ashley Goldberg. I especially love the ones with men in mustaches and their pets in the illustration. See more on Ashley's flickr site. via freshly{blended}

Here's a caricature we had done recently by local artist Deborah Moreno.

What do you guys think? Photograph or Illustration?
