I made a new bestie recently for The Employee Lounge blog. I started a new feature over there called Friday Fun Day to motivate myself to get away from the computer and make art. I think everyone has the ability to be creative and I'd love to see more people not be afraid of it like I once was. After being rejected for a special art program in elementary school, I thought, art must not be for me. Isn't it crazy that I let a small thing like that determine who I was for so long? But I found art again in college. I walked past the design program projects in the halls and just like that, I figured out what I wanted to do with my life. I usually name my besties, but this one is just called Tomato. Made with felt, buttons, thread, tulle and poly-fill.

Last month, Rebecca and I designed the window at Bespoke Salon for First Friday in the Crossroads. After seeing this post on The Small Object, I was determined to make and use those tissue paper pom poms asap. They are just too adorable. Since the window went up during the first week of May, I based the window design on the vibrant colors of Cinco de Mayo. Originally, I wanted an actual piñata in the window, but after some thought, decided to simplify it and ended up with a deconstructed piñata instead. Read more about our process and cost breakdowns after the jump.

Making Time

via Design Sponge
Check out this fun little project. Art, clock mechanism and an Altoids tin. Get instructions on how to make it here. Design Sponge is one of my favorite blogs. They always have such creative projects and "sneak peeks" into other people's homes. Crafting and voyeurism? Perfection.
